Application: Cell232Plus

Precidia Technologies has developed Cell232Plus, a simple, cost effective product that connects any stand-alone, asynchronous RS232, RS422 or RS485 serial device to a wireless network.

Cell232Plus does not require an existing infrastructure or upgrades to serial equipment to deliver a remote connectivity and monitoring solution. This makes it different from current land-line or modem-based solutions. A user simply connects existing serial equipment to the Cell232Plus and to a Mike handset or radio transceiver using a standard data cable. With this implementation, a user has in effect, a low cost wireless Virtual Private Network (VPN), with data moving securely from a field device to a control application and server. Data becomes accessible from anywhere.

Cell232Plus is ideal for providing real-time information from utility meters, traffic lights and other serial equipment that is difficult to reach with land line telephone cables. In addition, Cell232Plus can replace external modems in current dial applications. It extends network management to serial equipment that was previously unreachable due to lack of landline service or high costs to obtain such service.

The Cell232Plus solution includes SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for remote or third party management. The wireless serial devices can be monitored using a standard SNMP tool. If a problem is detected, key persons can be notified immediately. The overall solution restricts financial losses/environmental impacts associated with downtime by continuously evaluating the state of the remote device.
